NEW JEWELLERY BY LISA WEST: "Most days we take a walk through the bush reserve next to our house. I’m trying to become familiar with the names of the plants and recognise them by their leaf shapes.

I’ve also been looking at 19th century photographer Karl Blossfeldt’s close-up images of plants and Aubrey Beardsley’s pen and ink drawings. I admire the way they both constructed pictures using black and white positives and negatives.

The cut-outs in this work represent the shapes of leaves against the light. I like the layering effect the fans create in silhouette as you open them, mimicking sunlight through foliage.
The Perspex flowers are a progression from previous work, using riveting techniques to marry up silver and plastic, a material that is new to me".
