| SHARON FITNESS graduated from Manukau School of Visual Arts in 2007 and was awarded top contemporary jewellery student in her year. She has since taken part in group and solo exhibitions in galleries around New Zealand, including "Weeds Invites" Exhibition in Auckland in 2008. Sharon is known for her playful jewellery and unique use of non-traditional materials. "For many people, the word jewellery conjures up images of gold, diamonds and mass produced bling. This adorned baggage has led me to explore alternative visual and contextual communication surrounding wearable objects that do not fit the traditional jewellery mold. I create silicone jewels that encourage play and interaction between the wearer and the observer. They offer new possibilities for adorning and viewing jewellery, creating temporal art experiences for random audiences". |
