ISSAC IBBOTSON was born in 1975 and grew up in Golden Bay. He moved to Nelson to attend college and at the age of 15 he discovered the art of jewellery-making through evening classes at Nelson Polytechnic.
Inspired by local contemporary jewellery and Nelson’s creative arts scene Isaac continued the craft through his college years.
He then travelled overseas to pursue other interests, working for three years assisting an architectural photographer while studying design at Guildhall University in London.
In 1999 Isaac returned to Nelson to set up a workshop and develop his skills in the art.
Isaac Ibbotson is well established in Nelson and around NZ. His main area of interest is in the design field, where an exciting array of contemporary styles have emerged. The intention of his work is simply to show off the fabric of nature in the simplest possible way.
Forming the materials and framing them with crisp lines of precious metal he hand-crafts objects which are as pleasing to touch as they are to look at. The designs are intended to age with the wearer and will develop their own unique character.
