JULIE VINE has been working full-time making jewellery for over 25 years. Her work explores a wide range of materials, from local stone, brass and wood to gold and precious gems, drawing inspiration from dreams, animist cultures and a strong connection with the area in which she spent her childhood.
She believes jewellery can be an important talisman as well as having visual impact for the purpose of adornment, as has been seen throughout human history. It is a reflection of the wearer’s discernment and a sign of what has meaning for them. It holds then that the piece can be important on many levels, from form and colour to the level of execution of that piece, each facet having an individual part to play in the creation of the final object.
“ I still enjoy the work very much, more than ever now I’m back concentrating on my own style after the years of schlepping for junk in Australia. I like to make work that has movement and is durable…. ”
Julie has a studio in Nelson and exhibits her work in New Zealand and Australia.
